BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU women's soccer team dropped their Sunday afternoon match to Miami (Ohio) at WKU Soccer Complex by a score of 4-0 to bring their 2015 record to 1-1-0. Miami moves to 2-0-0 on the season.
After starting the season with a 3-1 win against UT Martin on Friday, the Lady Toppers were looking to stay undefeated on the young season. Miami came into the Sunday contest with a 1-0 victory Friday night against Vanderbilt. The game got started with a shot by freshman Hannah Cady, who had a goal and an assist on Friday night, but the Miami keeper Vic Maniaci jumped in for the save in the just the 3rd minute. WKU suffered a similar fate on several shot attempts.
The shots were there for the Lady Toppers with 17 on the day and nine shots on goal, including four shots from Cady and three from Lauren Moats, but WKU wasn't able to find the back of the net throughout the game. In the second half, Haley Baldridge beat a defender and had the Redhawks keeper Patricia Koutoulas on the ground but Koutoulas made an incredible play on the ball and was able to get a hand on it to punch it out of the box. Iris Dunn, Caitlin Hesse and Alanna Clancey all had two shots each in the game.
Miami was able to put the ball in the net twice in each half. The first coming in the 19th minute off of a corner kick. The second in the 44th minute when Rachel Marble was able to sneak the ball in from inside the box. The Redhawks added to their score with a goal in the 49th minute and 87th minute in the second half. Maniaci had six saves in the first half before being replaced at halftime by Koutoulas who came in and contributed three saves.
