Hilltopper Football Concludes Week With First Scrimmage
Aug. 9, 2014
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Hilltopper Football concluded its first week of fall camp with a two-hour scrimmage session at Houchens Industires-L.T. Smith Stadium Saturday afternoon.
WKU gave the first, second and third team offenses and defenses significant reps as players continue to jockey for depth chart position. First-year head coach Jeff Brohm spoke with the media following the scrimmage and was pleased with the Hilltoppers performance.
"I thought out effort was good and I thought we definitely saw our veterans competing and making plays," said Brohm. "That's what you need to see during these. With that being said, some of our new guys need to raise their level and intensity.
"I think we have leadership that is going to get it done. It's good to get the first scrimmage under the belt, get the cobwebs out and get ready to go."
Senior quarterback Brandon Doughty led an efficient attack with the first-team offense Saturday and liked what he saw from his teammates Saturday.
"I thought it went pretty well," said Doughty. "I thought we competed and I liked our tempo. Our guys are picking up the offense and picking up the signals."
The Hilltoppers will have a brief workout and meetings on Sunday before returning to the practice field for their first two-a-day on Monday morning. All practices are open through Aug. 15. A complete practice schedule can be found on WKUSports.com.
