Tennessee Titans Sign Former WKU Tight End Jack Doyle

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Former WKU tight end Jack Doyle has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans, making him one of three former Hilltoppers to enter the NFL this spring.

Doyle becomes the 49th player in WKU football history to sign with an NFL team as an undrafted free agent. Doyle joins defensive end Quanterus Smith in the NFL, who was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the NFL Draft Saturday. Former WKU offensive lineman Adam Smith also inked a deal as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday. With all three players finding NFL homes, WKU has now had 78 players sign with or get drafted by NFL teams.

Five former Hilltoppers have been signed or drafted in the past two seasons, as Quanterus Smith, Adam Smith and Doyle join 2012 signees Bobby Rainey (Baltimore Ravens) and Derrius Brooks (Cincinnati Bengals).

Doyle goes to the Titans after the most productive tight end career in WKU history. Doyle hauled in 162 catches for 1,769 yards during his Hilltopper career, both of which stand as records by a WKU tight end. His 162 catches rank second all-time among all players. A first-team all-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2012, Doyle tallied 53 receptions for 566 yards and five touchdowns. Doyle also excelled as a blocking tight end and was instrumental in leading All-American running back Antonio Andrews to a school-record 1,728 rushing yards.

Doyle is the sixth WKU player to sign with the Tennessee Titans franchise, but the first since Mike Miller in 1983 when the team was known as the Houston Oilers. The Titans host their first rookie mini-camp May 11-12. Official team activities begin May 30.

WKU has now had 22 different seasons in which multiple players have been either drafted or signed in by an NFL team in the same year. It marks the first time since 2003 that the Hilltoppers send three former players into the NFL as Jeremi Johnson was drafted in the fourth round by the Cincinnati Bengals while Sherrod Coates and Anthony Oakley both signed with the Cleveland Browns. Three or more Hilltoppers have either signed or been drafted in the same season on 11 different occasions.
