Boyd through ten games has recorded 31 tackles. Against UK Boyd has two tackles for loss and one sack. He finished with three tackles on the game. Against Navy Boyd recorded three tackles. Week six against ULM he had four tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss of six yards, and one sack for a loss of five yards. The following week against UL he had six tackles and one tackle for loss. In week nine against Georgia State Boyd had three tackles and one sack. He has earned eight starts at linebacker through the first ten games. Boyd finished the regular season with 40 tackles, two forced fumbles,also finishing second on the team in sacks with (5.5) and tackles for loss with ten.
Boyd had a breakout year from the outside linebacker position, finishing second on the team in sacks (3.5) and fifth in tackles for loss (6.5). He finished the season with 28 tackles, a forced fumble and a quarterback hit. Boyd notched six multi-tackle performances and appeared in every game for the second straight-season, earning two starts on the year. Boyd picked up his second-career sack at top-ranked Alabama on Sept. 8 with the lost yardage totaling eight. He finished the contest with a pair of tackles. Boyd posted two tackles in victory at Kentucky on Sept. 15. He tallied three tackles, including a nine-yard sack, in a nationally-televised win over Troy on Oct. 11. Boyd piled up a career-high 1.5 tackles for loss at FIU on Oct. 27 with the lost yardage totaling 12. He racked up four stops against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 10. Boyd recorded three solo tackles at Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 17. He totaled two solo tackles, including one for loss, in regular-season finale against North Texas on Nov. 24. Boyd posted a career-high seven tackles, a mark that ranked second on the team, in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl against Central Michigan on Dec. 26.
Boyd played in all 12 games as a sophomore at the linebacker position, seeing time as a reserve. He finished the season with nine tackles, including one solo stop for a loss. He saw his first extensive action of the season in week two against Navy on Sept. 10, picking up a season-high four tackles and one tackle for a two-yard loss. Boyd posted a tackle in each of the next two games against Indiana State on Sept. 17 and Arkansas State on Oct. 1 with both tackles being of the solo variety. He closed the regular season against Troy on Nov. 26 with a pair of tackles.
Boyd played in 10 games during his freshman season, recording 11 tackles and a sack. His sack came in a road contest at Louisiana-Lafayette on Oct. 23. He blocked two punts early in the game against Middle Tennessee on Nov. 20, both of which led to WKU touchdowns. Boyd tallied a season-high three tackles against both the Cajuns and Arkansas State on Nov. 13.
Boyd was named the team Most Valuable Player in senior season, compiling 68 total tackles, including 19 tackles for loss. He led the team with 16 sacks on the season while forcing four fumbles and scoring one touchdown on the defensive side of the ball. He broke up three passes and recovered three fumbles. Boyd was named Second-Team All-Conference and All-County as well as Honorable Mention All-State. He was rated as a two-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. Boyd also lettered one year in baseball for Lakewood High School. Bar'ee Boyd is the brother to current Hilltopper linebacker Xavius Boyd.
