MOBILE, Ala. -- Enjoying a breakout season so far in 2015, tight end Tyler Higbee has accepted his invitation to play in the 2016 Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 30, 2016 in Mobile, Alabama
Higbee will become the third player in No. 25 WKU history to participate in prestigious all-star game, joining former tight end Jack Doyle (2013) and running back Antonio Andrews (2014).
The Clearwater, Florida, native has had his best campaign since coming to The Hill this season as he is tied for the most touchdowns by an FBS tight end with eight. Higbee ranks third among Conference USA tight ends in receiving yards (563) and receptions (48), earning All-C-USA first team honors.
Before his injury in the middle of the season, the 2015 First Team Midseason All-American by CBS Sports ranked No. 1 among FBS tight ends in yards and was tied for the most touchdowns. He found the endzone in five of the opening six games in 2015, while also tallying at least 50 receiving yards in every game during that stretch and two 100-yard games at Vanderbilt and Indiana.
In the season-opening win at Vanderbilt, Higbee led WKU with 102 receiving yards and had a trip to the endzone to be named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. He would be dubbed honorable mention for the award two weeks later as he racked up a career-high 109 yards and 11 receptions, tying for fifth-most by a WKU player in a single game, at Indiana.
Higbee and the Hilltoppers will return to action in South Beach on Dec. 21 for the Miami Beach Bowl against South Florida, which is slated for a 1:30 p.m. CT kick from Marlins Park.
The Road to the Miami Beach Bowl is presented by WKU's School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport, providing quality education while always keeping students first.
