Director of Athletics Ross Bjork Sends Open Letter to WKU Fans Prior to Final 2010 Home Football Game

November 16, 2010

Dear Hilltopper Nation,

Greetings!  On behalf of the entire WKU Athletics family, we wish you a joyous and safe holiday season as we approach Thanksgiving and December right around the corner.  As the 2010 WKU home football schedule winds to an end, I wanted to appeal to your Hilltopper Spirit & Pride and ask for your help.

This Saturday at 3:15pm, your WKU football team will match up against the Blue Raiders from MTSU at Houchens-Smith Stadium.  MTSU is our biggest rival and has set a high standard for football success over the past five years with consistency of play and a will to win.  Even though MTSU has had a tough year, this game promises to be performed at a high level and filled with inspired play on both sides.

Therefore, in order to match the intensity on the field, we need you, your friends, and family in the stands cheering on your Hilltoppers!  As I have said from the beginning, our football program possesses the components to compete at a high level and make everyone in Hilltopper Nation very proud.  These ingredients (great coaches – first class facilities – a winning tradition – unwavering administrative support – spirited student body – loyal and feverish fan and community support) are being stirred every single day towards the ultimate goal of competing for, and winning championships.  I have consistently witnessed our student-athletes and coaches performing to their full potential and doing everything in their power to make it happen. Nothing is accomplished without hard work and we are committed to the task at hand.

Since my arrival I have also stated that our support of this program cannot be one dimensional in scope.  Meaning, it is imperative that we build a bigger and stronger fan base with your help.  We have been out and about in Bowling Green and the surrounding communities Spreading the Red and educating the public about the significance and prestige of hosting big-time college football right in our back yard.  You could not ask for a better way to be entertained than to visit the WKU campus.  The building of this program takes everyone’s commitment.  You, your family, friends, and neighbors are a big part of our foundation for success.

You should be proud of our football program’s growth and perseverance and we ask that you show your Spirit & Pride by attending the final home game this Saturday.  If you are a season ticket holder, we thank you for your support and loyalty.  All members of Hilltopper Nation can purchase tickets for $6 by logging on to, calling 1-800-5-BIGRED or by stopping by the box office at Diddle Arena.  Our goal is to make Houchens-Smith Stadium a great college football environment for this rivalry game and beyond.

We appreciate all that you do for WKU Athletics and our football program.  I look forward to seeing you this Saturday at the game.

Cheers to you,

Ross Bjork
