Big Red Radio Expands Into Television

Nov. 15, 2002

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Big Red Radio Network (BRRN), broadcast home of Western Kentucky University athletics, announced on Friday that its coverage area is expanding to include three local cable television systems. BRRN, the exclusive rights holder of Western Kentucky University football and men's and women's basketball since May 2000, has joined forces with Insight Communications in Bowling Green (Channel 57), The Glasgow Electric Plant Board (Channel 20) and South Central Telecom (Channel 6) to expand the scope of Hilltopper athletics even farther.

"By joining forces with Insight Communications, The Electric Plant Board and South Central Telecom, the Big Red Radio Network is now able to expand its footprint into the homes of nearly 32,000 subscribers in an eight county radius of campus," said Mike Legg, WKU Director of Broadcasting and Sales. "This will allow us to expose our sponsors, as well as our football and basketball programs, to even more potential listeners."

The three cable entities reach Barren, Edmonson, Green, Hart, Larue, Metcalf, Monroe and Warren counties.

Television broadcasts will begin this Saturday when the Hilltopper football team heads to Southern Illinois for their final game of the regular season, a 1:30 p.m. (CST) matchup with the Salukis. The Hilltoppers (7-3, 5-1 in Gateway action) are coming off their second shutout of the year, a 9-0 victory over then-No. 25 Illinois State. Pregame coverage is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. (CST).
