Bowling Green, Ky. - John Ridley, a 1974 graduate of Western Kentucky University, has purchased 5,000 construction helmets which will be given away prior to the first basketball games in the renovated Diddle Arena on Saturday, Nov. 9. The helmets, featuring WKU logos, will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis prior to the exhibition doubleheader which will be the public's first look at the revamped arena.
WKU basketball returns to action on Nov. 9 when the Lady Toppers take on the Houston Jaguars at 4 p.m. The men's team completes the twinbill when they play host to the Harlem Globetrotters at 7:30 p.m. The Hilltoppers are preseason favorites to win the East Division in the Sun Belt Conference, while the Lady Toppers were picked to finish second in their division.
Ridley, a resident of Bowling Green, Ky. and the investment officer and managing director for the Ridley Group of Wachovia Securities, spent $8,300 on the helmet giveaway to help celebrate the re-opening of Diddle Arena. Ridley serves on the President's Board of Advisors at Western Kentucky and is a member of the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation.
