WKU Improves Again in Latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate Release

WKU improved its GSR in the recent release.
Oct. 28, 2014 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU saw its overall graduation success rate (GSR) improve in the NCAA's release for freshman classes from 2004-07, thanks in part to three teams posting a perfect score of 100.

WKU's overall GSR for 15 sport programs was 80, which improved upon the 79 scored in each of the last two releases. The three WKU teams with perfect GSRs were men's golf, softball and volleyball, each of which also had a perfect score in last year's release.

WKU ranks fifth out of the 14 current members of Conference USA in the report and trails LA Tech by one point for the fourth-best conference GSR during the time period. WKU also stacks up favorably with other schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky (81) and the University of Louisville (80).

The GSRs released Tuesday are based on the four freshmen classes in Division I entering from 2004 to 2007. The NCAA calculates the rates based upon the number of student-athletes who graduated within six years after initially enrolling, in addition to those who left an institution prior to graduating but would have been academically eligible to compete. The GSR was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the success of Division I student-athletes by better accounting for the many different academic paths followed by today's college students.
