Bowling Green, Ky. - WLME-FM "Oldies 102.9", serving the Owensboro-Cannelton-Hawesville-Tell City area, has joined the growing Big Red Radio Network and is scheduled to carry the remainder of Western Kentucky University's football schedule as well as all the Hilltopper basketball action for the 2000-01 season.
"We have received numerous requests from the several thousand WKU alumni in the Owensboro area to carry Hilltopper football and basketball," said Corky Norcia, the Chief Operating Officer of Hancock Communications, Inc., in Owensboro, who oversees WLME as well as Hancock stations WBIO-FM (94.7), WTCJ-FM ("The Party", 105.7), WXCM-FM ("91X", 97.1), WTCJ-AM (1230) and WKCM-AM (1160), all in the Owensboro area. "We are excited about joining the Big Red Radio Network and bringing these broadcasts to Hilltopper fans in the Owensboro area."
WLME is a 25,000-watt FM station which covers an area stretching from Louisville and Elizabethtown to Owensboro from east to west, and, from Jasper, Ind., to Morgantown north to south. The addition of WLME brings the number of affiliates on the Big Red Radio Network to 12, including four FM stations.
"This is a major addition to the Network, bringing our broadcasts to an area that's home to thousands of Hilltopper fans," Dave Hunziker, "The Voice of the Hilltoppers" and Director of Broadcasting and Sales for WKU athletics, said. "The timing is perfect. Our Owensboro-area fans will be able to listen to our big game with Eastern Illinois this Saturday that will determine the OVC football champion.
"We are excited to have an outstanding station such as WLME as our affiliate in Owensboro and would like to thank Corky Norcia and his staff for their efforts in making this happen," he added.
The Big Red Radio Network, which originates its coverage of Hilltopper football and men's basketball on WKLX-FM (100.7) in Bowling Green, now includes the following affiliates:

Lady Topper basketball originates on WPTQ-FM (103.7) in Bowling Green.
