Q: Will basketball team play on cable here in Louisville this year? If so what dates and times will they play? I really enjoyed watching the games last year. -- submitted by Burie Smith, Louisville, Ky.
Dr. Selig: We will have a continued presence in the Louisville market with our TV partner WYCS TV 24. Currently we are working out our 2001-02 men's and women's basketball TV schedule for all of Hilltopper Sports Satellite Network (HSSN). We should have a release on wkusports.com as well as a regional print media release about the stations throughout the Southeast comprising the HSSN. We will continue to place greater emphasis on the HSSN as at times last year this self-syndicated network reached 10,000,000 homes (25,000,000 viewers) for various games throughout the season. As league television coverage and exposure for all conferences, except the BCS leagues, becomes tougher and tougher to generate, schools such as WKU who can produce and distribute their own programming while also clearing a substantial coverage area of affiliates will rise to the top in recruiting, visibility, stature, and servicing of alumni, fans, and potential future generations of students. We will continue to develop HSSN to the best of our abilities and guarantee statewide and national exposure of Hilltopper athletics. Stay tuned for the season schedule and affiliate information in your area. Thanks for your interest in and support of Western Kentucky athletics.
