Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University announced today that James L. Brown, a veteran of 37 years as a professor on the Hill, has been named as the University's new Faculty Athletics Representative. Under this title, Brown will serve as the chairman of the WKU Athletics Committee.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how all this will play out, and what kind of guidance I can bring to the committee," said Brown, a professor in WKU's Theatre and Dance Department. "I'm a firm believer that athletics are an important part of the university, and it should be in balance with academics. We are moving in a very positive direction as a university right now, and athletics has been a big part of that growth."
Brown has been affiliated with Hilltopper athletics in several different capacities. He has spent the last 15 years working with WKU swimming coach Bill Powell, videotaping meets and traveling with the team on occasion. His son, Steven, was also a four-year letterwinner on the Hilltopper soccer team. Brown replaces Dr. Steve White, who stepped down as faculty representative last month.
