Mountain Dew Code Red Cans Honor 2002 I-AA National Champion Hilltoppers

Bowling Green, Ky. — For a limited time only, fans of Western Kentucky University will be able to purchase special commemorative Mountain Dew Code Red cans featuring the WKU logo in honor of the Hilltopper football team’s 2002 I-AA national championship. As a special promotion, WKU and Pepsi will be giving away the commemorative cans to the first 3,000 fans in attendance at the Sept. 6 football game with West Virginia Tech.

“PepsiAmerica has done a terrific job of commemorating our football national championship with the new Code Red cans,” said Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Jim Clark. “The exposure this will generate statewide for WKU and our football program is tremendous, and provides yet another example of the benefits this partnership provides to both parties.”

The special WKU cans, only 700,000 of which will be produced, are currently available in the Louisville, Lebanon, Hopkinsville, Owensboro and Bowling Green markets.

The Hilltoppers captured the school’s first national championship on Dec. 20 with a 34-14 win over McNeese State. This year’s squad opens the 2003 season with a home game against Union (Ky.) on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. (CST).
