WKU Celebrates Career of Pam Herriford

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Pam Herriford, who has spent 38 years on The Hill and currently serves as WKU's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services, is retiring and moving into a part-time role in the athletic department.

Herriford was originally hired in August 1977 as the first full-time female assistant athletic trainer at WKU, and she continued in athletic training until 1981. In August 1981, she became Coordinator of Women's Athletics, and in 1985 she became an Assistant Athletic Director and WKU's first Senior Women's Administrator. She was elevated to Associate Athletic Director in 1990.

During her time at WKU, Herriford has worked with six university presidents, eight athletic directors, over 60 head coaches and visited approximately 85 other college campuses.

Herriford served on numerous committees throughout her career. She has served as Chair of the Sun Belt Conference SWA group and is currently a member of the WKU Diversity Committee and on the Board of Directors for the WKU Alumni W-Club. Herriford served a previous stint as W-Club President.

Herriford previously served multiple terms on the NCAA Research Committee and the NCAA Softball Committee and has served as tournament director for NCAA Women's Basketball Regional and First/Second Round games at E.A Diddle Arena. She has also worked as Sun Belt Conference tournament director for women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, cross country and softball and has been involved in the hosting of the annual state of Kentucky girl's high school basketball "Sweet Sixteen" since it first came to the WKU campus in 1986.

A native of Franklin, Ky., Herriford graduated from WKU in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and obtained a master's degree in education from WKU in 1977. A letterwinner in tennis and track, she and her husband, Ron, have two children who are WKU graduates: daughter, Kim, and son, Keith.
