WKU Student-Athletes Conclude Outstanding Spring Semester in the Classroom

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU's 385 student-athletes finished the spring 2012 semester with an average grade point average of 3.05, and 60 percent recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the recently-concluded term.

Eleven of WKU's 15 sport programs had a team semester GPA of 3.0 or higher in the spring, with five at 3.3 or higher. The soccer program led the way with a team semester GPA of 3.57, and volleyball ended with a 3.56.

In the 2011-12 academic year, 232 student-athletes earned academic honors from the Sun Belt Conference. WKU saw 124 student-athletes make the Academic Honor Roll with a 3.0-3.49 GPA this year, and 108 others received Commissioner's List recognition at 3.5-4.0 for the year.

A total of 120 student-athletes graduated in 2011-12, with 46 finishing their degrees in December and 74 in May. Each of WKU's 19 sports is represented among the 120 student-athletes.

Entering the 2012-13 academic year, the cumulative team GPA for WKU's 15 sport programs is also 3.05. More than 200 student-athletes, 54 percent, carry a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
