BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU Athletics held its annual academic banquet Monday evening at the President's House on campus, where over 250 of WKU's 350-plus student-athletes were invited to attend based on their academic credentials.
A total of 36 student-athletes were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society this year for having a cumulative grade point average (GPA) above 3.4. In the last eight years, 251 WKU student-athletes have been honored by the society.
Forty-six more student-athletes were honored for achieving personal best GPAs in the Fall 2013 semester.
With a 3.17 team GPA, the baseball program was honored as the Men's Scholar Team of the Year, and the Women's Scholar Team of the Year is the golf program with a 3.68 team GPA.
Caden Dickerson from the men's basketball program was honored as the Graduate Student of the Year.
Taryn O'Shea from the soccer program received the Courage Award for excelling athletically and academically while overcoming personal hardship, and Katie Lever from the track and field and cross country program earned the Outreach-Service Award for exemplifying sportmanship and character and being actively involved in the community.
Maggie Woodward was named the Athletic Tutor of the Year.
