BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The fourth annual Jimmy Feix Scholarship Dinner will take place on Friday, May 10, at Wolf's Convention Center in Henderson. Tickets to the affair are $25 and can be purchased at Matt's News and Gifts, located at 106 North Elm Street in Henderson through May 9.
There will be a social hour from 6-7 p.m. (CDT), with the event beginning at 7 p.m.
This year's featured speaker is Romeo Crennel, defensive coordinator of the world champion New England Patriots. Crennel, a 1969 Western graduate, earned four letters in football on the Hill, helping WKU to a 25-11-3 (67.9 percent) record and three second-place finishes in the Ohio Valley Conference during his career.
Proceeds for the dinner go to the Jimmy Feix Scholarship Fund, which annually awards a $1,000 scholarship to a Tri-County (Henderson, Union, Webster County High Schools) senior who will attend Western.
Feix was the Hilltoppers' first All-American in football, earning honors from the Associated Press as a quarterback in 1952, while also being selected all-OVC his final two seasons. He still ranks in the top 10 in the WKU career records in five passing categories, including pass efficiency rating (third, 113.45), touchdowns (tied third, 30), yards (fourth, 3,780), completion percentage (fifth, .491) and completions (sixth, 272).
Feix later coached WKU from 1968-1983, still holding Hilltopper records with 106 wins and 168 games. Western was 106-56-6 (64.9 percent) during his tenure, winning six OVC titles - he led the team to the NCAA Division II title game in both 1973 and '75. Feix also served the school in the alumni office and as athletic director before retiring in 1983.
