BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - During the month of April, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety will be pro-moting Distracted Driving Awareness Month at all WKU home events, and Hilltopper fans will have the opportunity to sign a pledge against distracted driving at various events and win prizes and tickets to WKU events.
The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is the title sponsor for WKU's Spring Football Game on April 18. At the spring game, fans can sign the pledge and receive a free ticket to a WKU home football game during the 2015 season.
Fans can also sign the pledge at WKU home baseball and softball games during the month of April and receive a free ticket to a Saturday home game and be entered to win auto-graphed prizes.
In 2014, there were more than 53,500 collisions in Kentucky where driver distraction was noted as a factor. These crashes resulted in more than 9,000 injuries and 169 fatalities. These numbers accounted for approximately 45 percent of the total crashes and 25 percent of the total fatal crashes that oc-curred on Kentucky's roadways last year.
