Plaster replaces Barry Gresham in the play-by-play role, who departed after New Year’s Day when he was hired as an assistant athletic director at Tennessee State.
“We are thrilled to welcome George back into the HSSN family,” David Brinkley, executive producer of the network, said. “He is sure to provide a fresh perspective in the broadcast booth — we anticipate a noticeable response from our viewers.”
Plaster has a history of covering WKU basketball games, having served as the play-by-play announcer on local Hilltopper broadcasts from 1982-87 and again in 1990-94. He also was Vanderbilt’s play-by-play announcer for both football and men’s basketball from 1995-98.
A fixture on the Nashville radio scene since 1981, he has hosted various sports talk shows in the city over the last 15 years. He has hosted the Sports Zone — a four-hour daily call-in show — on 104.5 The Zone for the last year-and-a-half after working for 14 years at WTN Radio.
“George brings a wealth of valuable broadcast and Hilltopper sports experience to HSSN fans,” said WKYU-PBS station manager Linda Gerofsky. “We're really excited about this new addition to our team.”
Plaster’s first broadcast with HSSN is scheduled for Thursday, when the Hilltoppers (10-4) play host to New Orleans (7-9) at E.A. Diddle Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (CST). The game can be seen on HSSN, which includes WKYU-PBS local cable channel 11, WYCS-24 in Louisville and WKAG-TV in Hopkinsville, and it is also a part of ESPN’s Full Court Package.
