BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Lou Henson, one of the most successful men's basketball coaches in NCAA history, will be the featured guest speaker at the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation fan luncheon Jan. 16 at noon (CST) at the University Plaza Hotel. That night at 7 p.m., Henson's New Mexico State club takes on Western Kentucky in Sun Belt Conference action at E.A. Diddle Arena -- it will be the only time Henson and the Aggies will visit Bowling Green this season.
Henson has amassed a 731-372 (66.3%) record in 38 seasons of coaching, placing fourth in career victories among active Division I coaches and ranking sixth in total games coached (1,103). During his time at Hardin-Simmons, Illinois and New Mexico State, Henson has guided his teams to 22 postseason appearances, including 19 NCAA Tournament berths. He has also reached the Final Four with two different teams, piloting NMSU to the national semifinals in 1970 and returning there with Illinois in 1989. In addition, Henson's squads have had only three losing seasons in his 37 years on the sidelines.
Tickets for the HAF luncheon featuring Henson are $12 per person and can be purchased by contacting the HAF office at (270) 745-5321. The deadline to make reservations for this event is Friday (Jan. 12).
