BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU tennis program wrapped up a successful weekend on Sunday, with both the men's and women's squad picking up wins. The win moved the Lady Toppers to 3-0 on the season and capped off a 2-0 weekend after shutting out Kentucky Wesleyan 6-0 on Saturday.

The win for the Hilltoppers (1-1) pulls their record back to even, after falling to Union College on January 30.

Playing host to Southern Indiana on Sunday, the WKU women's team swept the doubles portion of the match, earning the all-important doubles point, which ended up being the difference in the match after the two schools split the six singles matches.

Freshmen Monta Reinfelde and McKinley Mason set the pace for the Lady Toppers from the top doubles spot, taking down Michelle Girgenti and Lindsey White of USI, 9-8. Reinfelde also took down Girgenti in straight sets in singles, winning 6-1, 6-3.

Senior Carrie True and freshman Alex Crofford paired up for the second time this season in doubles play, winning 8-2 over Morgan Coquerille and Ellena Stumpf. True and Crofford are now 2-0 as a doubles team this season.

True also won a decisive singles match, winning 6-3, 7-5 over Logan Ackerman to preserve the 4-3 win.

Aside from True and Reinfelde, sophomore Katrina Vucina was the only other Lady Topper to come away victorious in singles play. Vucina and freshmen Morgan Freeman also picked up a win in doubles play, winning for the second time as partners.

On the men's side, the Hilltoppers picked up wins in all doubles and singles match except for one, earning a decisive 6-1 win over visiting Bellarmine.

Paced by a sweep in doubles play, WKU won four of the five singles in straight sets, with senior Currie Martin outlasting Bellarmine's Todd Atcher 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the only singles match to go beyond two sets. Martin and teammate Lance Freeman also picked up a win in doubles play over Atcher and Bryan Skaggs, 8-4. Freeman defeated Paul Clark in singles play, 6-4, 6-3.

Arul Selvan and Robert Whitmer took down the team of Paul Clark and Michael Heinekamp 8-4 in doubles play, while both Selvan and Whitmer picked up wins in singles play as well. Selvan, playing from the No. 2 singles spot, beat Bellarmine's Carlos Antonioli 6-2, 6-4, while Whitmer downed Alex Chanley, 6-3, 6-2.

Freshman Caleb Ball also picked wins in singles and doubles play, pairing up with Craig Kirchgessner for an 8-4 win in doubles.

Following the pair of wins, both the men's and women's tennis teams will return to action on Saturday, February 12, as Lipscomb travels to Bowling Green.
