MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. — The WKU men's golf team saved its best for last at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, shooting a third-round 294 on Wednesday to record its best round in over a month and finish in 10th place in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
The 294 was the second-best final round by any team in the field and bettered WKU's previous best round in the championships by 20 strokes. As a result, the Hilltoppers jumped to 10th place in the final standings and ended up just three shots out of eighth.
North Texas won the conference championship with a three-round score of 873. The Mean Green's Ty Spinella was the wire-to-wire individual champion with a two-under par 214.
Freshmen Cameron Beal and Brandon Beckham each were under par on Wednesday, with Beal shooting a two-under 70 to finish tied for 20th. Beckham's 71 shot him to a tie for 24th for the tournament at 229.
Both rounds for the Bowling Green-area rookies tied their season lows.
Doug Kleeschulte was tied for 39th, Will Beard finished tied for 47th and Andrew Heiser ended up tied for 54th at the tournament.
