Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University men's and women's track and field teams split this past weekend, competing in four meets over three days at Mt. SAC, Azusa Pacific, Louisville and Vanderbilt.

 

 

 

Mt. SAC Relays

 

For the second time this outdoor season, David Mokone broke his own WKU 800-meter record in the open 800-meter run at Mt. SAC, clocking a time of 1:48.09 to finish second overall in the competition.

 

De'Myco Winston was the overall winner of the five sections of the open 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 46.83 seconds.  That effort moves Winston into second-place on the WKU all-time performance list in the event, passing former all-American Gavin Smellie as just the third Hilltopper to ever break the 47-second barrier.

 

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kyle Chettleburgh finished fourth in the Open C race, posting a personal-best time of 9:01.35.  That effort moves Chettleburgh into third on the Hilltopper all-time performer list, passing former Sun Belt steeple champion Jef Scott (husband of Lady Topper distance coach Michelle Scott).

 

Deus Rwaheru clocked a time of 29:15.06 in the invitational elite section of the 10,000m, finished tenth overall in the race.  In the Olympic development elite section of the men's 5,000 meters, Joseph Chebet posted a time of 14:06.01, while Peter Okwera clocked a time of 14:25.67 in the "B" section of the open 5,000 meters.

 

In section one of the men's open 400-meter hurdles, Marcus Pope placed fourth with a time of 51.62 seconds, which ranked as the fifth-best time posted in the five sections of the race.

 

Monica Akello won section five of the women's 800-meter run, clocking a personal-best time of 2:09.18 to better her mark as the number two 800-meter runner in Lady Topper history.

 

The 4x400-meter relay team of Karlis Daube, Mokone, Pope and Winston finished sixth in the open section of the event, passing the baton in 3:11.73.

 

 

 

Louisville - Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational

 

Kristina Volfova bettered her mark as the fourth-fastest 100-meter hurdler in Lady Topper history, posting a winning time of 14.65 seconds.  Monteka Flowers posted a season-best mark of 149-4 in the discus to finish sixth in the event.  In the men's discus, Travis Gerding finished third with a mark of 151-7.

 

 

 

Azusa Pacific - Bryan Clay Invitational

 

Michelle Finn represented WKU at the Bryan Clay Invitational on the campus of Azusa Pacific Friday, posting a personal-best 1,500-meter time of 4:34.07 to place third in section two and tenth overall.  Later in the day in the 5,000 meters, Finn clocked 17:42.94 to placed eighth.

 

 

 

Vanderbilt Invitational

 

On Saturday at Vanderbilt, Buddy Price finished sixth in the men's hammer throw, recording a mark of 170-7.
