Murray, Ky. - The third-straight win for the WKU women's tennis team proved elusive Saturday afternoon as the Lady Toppers dropped a 6-1 decision at Murray State.

WKU (3-2) picked up wins at both No.1 singles and No.1 doubles thanks to undefeated junior Monta Reinfelde, who improved her singles record to 5-0 after Murray State's Ashley Canty retired in the first set. Reinfelde and sophomore Madeline Phillips rebounded from their first loss of the season a week ago and cruised past Lady Racers Carolyn Huerth and Canty 8-1. The duo now sits at 4-1 on the young campaign.

Outside of the top slots it was all Murray State (3-3), however, as only freshman Gabby Crofford at No.5 singles was able to come within two points in a set.

The Lady Toppers are back in action March 11 for their first home match of the season against Liberty. The match is one of six over WKU's spring break, a slate that features two home matches against Liberty (March 11) and Sun Belt Conference foe UALR (March 16). All home matches will be played at Bowling Green High School.

 

The WKU men's tennis team couldn't overcome its scoring drought at USI (4-2), falling 7-0 to the Screamin' Eagles. The Hilltoppers (1-5) haven't registered a point since their 6-1 win over Georgetown on Feb. 8.

Head coach Jeff True will look to get the Hilltoppers back on track next week as WKU will have five matches between March 12-17, including their first home match of the season against Bradley on March 17.
