MOREHEAD, Ky. - The WKU women's tennis team cruised through another in-state foe Saturday afternoon, sweeping Morehead State 7-0 at the EAGLE Center.
The Lady Toppers improved to 3-1 with the win and extended their scoring advantage to 20-1 over schools in the state of Kentucky.
Junior Monta Reinfelde kept her undefeated season alive by handling Morehead State's Victoria Cran 6-4, 6-1 to move to 4-0 on the season. Reinfelde also inched her career-winning percentage up to .868 as she now stands at 33-5 in just over two seasons of play on the Hill.
Sophomores Madeline Phillips and Carolina Barboza moved to 3-1 in singles play as Barboza scraped by Dominique McClean 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 while Phillips slid by Sandrine Beaule 8-6.
Reinfelde and Phillips, ranked No.60 in the preseason by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dropped their first doubles match of the season, falling to McClean and Victoria Cran 8-6.
The WKU men's tennis team failed to earn a point for the third-straight week as the Eagles swept singles play to capture the 6-0 victory. The men's team dueled outdoors and due to cold conditions doubles was not played.
The Lady Toppers return to action Saturday, March 2 as they travel to Murray State while the Hilltoppers open up their home slate Sunday, March 3 against USI at 12 p.m. The match will be held at Bowling Green High School.
