Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University women's tennis team started its fall slate at the Belmont Fall Classic last weekend, with true freshman Gabby Crofford coming away with a No.4 singles crown after sweeping through her competition.

The Franklin, Tenn. native defeated Belmont senior Spenser Anne-Edwards 6-0, 6-2 in the first round and followed with a close win over another Bruin, Ann Fiepke, 7-5. 4-6. 10-4. Crofford cruised to victory in the championship match, defeating Austin Peay's Jovana Karac 6-3, 6-3.

Gabby's older sister, junior Alex Crofford, had a strong showing as well for the Lady Toppers, capturing third-place honors in No.3 singles after wins over Lipscomb's Shilpa Naruka and Belmont's Natalia Nunes.

Junior Monta Reinfelde, who ended her sophomore campaign with a 15-1 singles record, notched a fifth-place finish at No.1 singles.

Both the men's and women's tennis teams are in action next weekend (Sept.28-30) at the Austin Peay Invitational in Clarksville, Tenn.
