Chebet, a senior, had an impressive showing in his first cross country meet for the Hilltoppers, finishing runner-up in last Friday's Belmont Opener. His 15:18.70 clocking was just two seconds behind the winning pace. He and sophomore David Mokone both notched Top 10 finishes to lead WKU to a fifth place overall finish at Percy Warner Park.
The award is Chebet's first as a member of the Hilltopper cross country squad, though he did earn all-Sun Belt Conference honors in four indoor and outdoor track events earlier this spring.
WKU was also represented in the Preseason Regional Cross Country rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), ranking 10th in the Southeast Region.
Chebet and the Hilltoppers are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 15th as they compete in the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
