MALVERN, Pa. - Incoming freshman Taylor Thompson (Louisville, Ky.) leads the Boy's Division of the CorseMax/Philadelphia Runner Junior Tournament at White Manor Country Club, entering Tuesday's final round at even par. The tournament is conducted by the American Junior Golf Association.
Thompson opened the event on Sunday with a 3-under-par 68, posting seven birdies to gain the early lead in the event. Thompson finished the round strong after getting into a difficult situation on the 16th hole. His tee shot on the 16th landed behind a tree, forcing him to hook his next shot around the tree while also avoiding a bunker. He hit it to two feet for birdie and added another birdie on No. 17.
The Louisville Collegiate graduate, shot a 3-over-par 74 in the second round to take a one stroke lead into the final day of competition in Malvern.
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,500 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries. Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.
