Third-year head coach Willie Taggart has also announced that Monday's first practice at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium - which will be split between rookies and veterans - will be open to the public from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Parking will be available in PS2 next to the stadium. Monday's practice will be the only opportunity for fans to see the 2012 Hilltoppers on the practice field prior to the Sept. 1 season opener against Austin Peay.
The Hilltoppers will hold 25 practices over the next three weeks, ending preseason camp with the fourth annual Family Fun Day from 4-6 p.m. (CDT) on Aug. 25 at Houchens-Smith Stadium. A total of 103 players are expected to be on the field when camp opens Monday morning. The first full-squad practice in pads will take place on Friday, with the first of four two-a-day sessions scheduled for Sunday.
The Hilltoppers are coming off a 7-5 season in 2011, winning seven of their final eight games. The lone loss in that stretch was in mid-November at then-#1 LSU. WKU also put together a 7-1 Sun Belt record to finish second in the conference standings. That was a five-win turnaround in league games from 2010, marking the largest single-season turnaround in Sun Belt history.
Season ticket packages for WKU's six home games in 2012 start as low at $50, and are currently available by contacting the WKU Ticket Office at 1-800-5 BIG RED.
