Are you ready for some football? WKU Athletics counts you down to opening day at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on September 1, 2012 with the 50-day “Countdown to Kickoff” series on WKUSports.com. Each day will be accompanied by a significant number in WKU football history.
31 Years of NFL Coaching for WKU Alum Romeo Crennel
WKU alumni Romeo Crennel spent time on both sides of the trenches during his Hilltopper playing career. The experience and knowledge gathered on both the offensive and defensive lines has led to 31 years of coaching in the National Football League.
After coaching stints at Texas Tech, Mississippi and Georgia Tech, Crennel broke into the NFL with the New York Giants as an assistant. Crennel spent 11 years with the Giants before short tenures with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets in the mid-90’s. Crennel was named the defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns in 2000 and shortly thereafter he went back to New England to accept the same position.
Crennel was key in three Super Bowl victories during the Patriots’ dynasty in the early 2000’s. His success landed him opportunities as a head coach in Cleveland and now Kansas City.
Think you know what the next number will represent? Let us know and follow the discussion on Facebook (WKU Athletics) and Twitter (@WKUSports).
