Are you ready for some football? WKU Athletics counts you down to opening day at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on September 1, 2012 with the 50-day “Countdown to Kickoff” series on WKUSports.com. Each day will be accompanied by a significant number in WKU football history.
40 FOOTBALL REPRESENTATIVES IN WKU ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Entering its 96th season as a football program,
WKU has placed 40 individuals into the WKU Athletics Hall of Fame. The inaugural Hall of Fame class of 1991
featured Hilltopper legends E.A Diddle and Jimmy Feix.
While Diddle is primarily known for his accomplishments on
the basketball court, he also had an impact on the field. Diddle led the
Hilltoppers to 38 wins between 1922 and 1928, including a 9-1 record during his
first season.
Fellow 1991 Hall of Fame inductee Jimmy Feix not only holds
WKU football coaching records for wins (106), winning percentage (64) and
seasons coached (16), but he is also one of just four Hilltopper football
players to have his jersey retired. You can find his photograph and his jersey
number (66) hanging outside of Houchens Industries – L.T. Smith Stadium.
Other WKU football Hall of Famers include 2002 National
Championship coach Jack Harbaugh, former quarterback and current coach Willie
Taggart, former defensive back Virgil Livers and fullback Dale Lindsey.
