WKU Individual News and Notes
• In the last two seasons, WKU has seen a vast improvement from the No. 1 singles position, going 24-6 over the last 30 matches in 2011 and 2012. In 2009 and 2010 combined, the Lady Toppers managed only 12 combined singles wins from the top spot.
• WKU sophomore Monta Reinfelde suffered her first loss of the season in both singles and doubles play on Sunday against Middle Tennessee. Reinfelde’s 20-0 combined start was believed to be the best overall start from the top spot in WKU history, and finished just two singles wins from tying Karina Ledaja’s 12-0 start in 2003.
• Reinfelde’s 10-1 start in singles play puts the sophomore just one win away from 25 singles victories for her career. Reinfelde is currently 24-4 in 28 career matches.
• After going a combined 10-0 in singles and doubles play in Alabama, Monta Reinfelde picked up her second Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week award of the season. Reinfelde’s February 15 award was the first player of the week honor for a Lady Topper since Inese Zverge picked up the award in 1999.
• Freshman Madeline Phillips and sophomore Monta Reinfelde have proved to be quite a one-two punch at the top of the WKU doubles lineup, as the duo has gone 9-1 since being paired together on February 11.
• WKU freshman Carolina Barboza has thrived from the No. 2 singles position in 2012, as she has won six of her last eight singles from the No. 2 spot — all six resulting in Lady Topper wins.
• WKU junior Katrina Vucina saw her first action of the 2012 season in Alabama, going 3-2 in singles play, giving her 22 singles wins for her career. She also went a perfect 2-0 in doubles play with teammate Morgan Freeman.
