BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The bracket for the 2011 Charleston Classic men's basketball tournament was announced Wednesday, and WKU is set to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the tournament opener on November 17 in Charleston, S.C.
The tournament is slated to be played November 17, 18 and 20 and features eight teams. Each team will play three games at Carolina First Arena, with the WKU-Tulsa game kicking off the tournament at 11:30 AM (CT) on November 17.
WKU and Tulsa have met five times previously, with the Hurricane winning four. WKU won the first game on December 30, 1952, and Tulsa has won four-in-a-row. The most recent contest came in 1995, when Tulsa captured a 73-65 win in Bowling Green.
The other first-round matchups in the 2011 Charleston Classic are LSU-Northwestern, VCU-Seton Hall and Georgia Tech-St. Joseph's. WKU will face either LSU or Northwestern in the second round the next day, depending on the outcomes of the first games.
The 2011 Charleston Classic is hosted by ESPN and The Southern Conference and marks the second-straight season the Hilltoppers have participated in a marquee mid-November exempt tournament. WKU went 1-2 in the 2010 Honda Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
No television information is available for WKU's first game in Charleston against Tulsa. Other games on November 17 are scheduled to air on ESPNU.
