BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU has entered into agreements to play home-and-home series with Southern Miss in both football and men's basketball, beginning when the Golden Eagles travel to Bowling Green during the 2012 football season.
The September 22, 2012 game at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium will be the first gridiron meeting between WKU and Southern Miss, who hails from Conference USA. The Golden Eagles have had 17-straight winning seasons and played in nine consecutive bowl games.
The addition of Southern Miss to the 2012 home football slate gives WKU six games in Bowling Green in both the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
The second game in the football series will take place during the 2016 season when WKU heads to Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
In addition, WKU will also begin a series with the Golden Eagles in men's basketball. The Hilltoppers will travel to Hattiesburg during the 2012-13 season, and the two schools will play in E.A. Diddle Arena during the 2013-14 season.
WKU has won all three previous men's basketball meetings with the Golden Eagles, including two in Bowling Green. WKU defeated Southern Miss, 80-56, in 1958, and also won games in 2001 and 2002.
