The Hilltoppers were led by two seniors who won Sun Belt Conference titles in their respective events during the 2012 indoor campaign.
Joseph Chebet clocked a winning time of 8:19.47 in the 3,000-meter run, shattering the Blazer Invitational record by more than 16 seconds. Junior David Mokone also broke the now former meet record with a time of 8:30.64, but finished second behind Chebet.
Senior Houston Croney claimed victory in the weight throw with a toss of 58-01.25. In WKU's first two meets this season Croney has notched a win and a runner-up finish in the weight throw (2nd at MTSU Christmas Invite).
A pair of record-holding field performers highlighted the Lady Toppers showing.
Sophomore Karleigh Parker shared the pole-vaulting victory with Kennesaw State's Michelle Quimby, recording a 12-01.5 mark. Her vault equaled the school record she set at last year's Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and also tied the Blazer Invitational record.
Senior Sharika Smith captured runner-up honors in the triple jump with a mark of 40-06.25 while finishing third in the long jump with a leap of 18-06.5. Smith set indoor records for each event during the 2011 season.
Both squads return to action in Champaign, Ill. at the Illini Classic, hosted at the UI Armory on Jan. 18-19.
