Are you ready for some football? WKU Athletics counts you down to opening day at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on September 1, 2012 with the 50-day “Countdown to Kickoff” series on WKUSports.com. Each day will be accompanied by a significant number in WKU football history.

29 Career Starts for Jack Doyle Entering 2012

Senior tight end Jack Doyle has been a staple in the Hilltopper offense since his first season in 2009 where he started in 10 of WKU’s 12 games. Entering his final year on the Hill, the Mackey Award Watch List member has 29 career starts, more than all but two Hilltoppers on the current Hilltopper roster.

Doyle snagged 37 catches for over 300 yards and one touchdown in his rookie campaign, earning Phil Steele’s National All-Freshman team honors. He started the first seven games during the 2010 season before suffering a season-ending injury against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Doyle was named a preseason watch list member of the John Mackey Award in 2011, an award given to the nation’s top tight end. Doyle led WKU in catches (52) and receiving yards (614) during his 12 starts as a junior. Entering 2012 Doyle is sixth all-time on WKU’s receptions list at 109.
