Jacksonville, Fla. - The Western Kentucky University track and field teams completed competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries at North Florida's Hodges Stadium Saturday.  A total of four WKU student-athletes have advanced to the NCAA Finals in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9 at Drake.

 

Running in heat two of the men's 5,000 meters, Joseph Chebet secured his spot at the championship site with a sixth-place finish of 14:03.86, advancing on time.  Deus Rwaheru finished ninth in the same race with a time of 14:14.30 to end his career in a Hilltopper uniform.  

 

After qualifying for the championship site in Friday's discus competition, Monteka Flowers narrowly missed the finals of Saturday's hammer competition, finishing 17th with a throw of 184-6.

 

In the high jump, Cyrus Johnson tied for 43rd with a clearance of 6-7.50.

 

Joining Chebet and Flowers in Des Moines will be Ignacio "Nacho" Guerra in the javelin and Marcus Pope in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.
