BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University softball head coach Tyra Perry announced on Tuesday the addition of sophomore pitcher Janna Scheff to the 2013 Lady Topper roster.

"We are very excited to have Janna in our program," said Perry. "She is a proven winner and will provide an immediate boost to our veteran pitching staff."

Scheff comes to Bowling Green from Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee where she was named second-team all-conference and led the Lady Tigers to a national championship. Scheff held a record of 22-1 during her freshman campaign, as she pitched 137.1 innings in 31 games while striking out 125 batters. Named the Freshman Team Pitcher of the Year, Scheff allowed 35 runs, 20 earned, on 100 hits and notched an ERA of 1.02.

Originally from Cartersville, Ga., Scheff attended Excel Christian Academy and helped the program to the Elite Eight her junior year. During that season, Scheff finished with a 24-4 mark and 232 strikeouts. Earning the honors of all-region, all-state, MVP and Pitcher of the Year during her career, Scheff rounded out her final year of high school with a 25-6 record, 1.04 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 162 innings of work. Scheff also did damage at the plate, as she tabbed a .573 average with nine home runs, 10 doubles and 39 RBI.

Scheff is the daughter of Lloyd and Kathi Scheff and plans to major in early childhood education.
