Hilltopper Offense Converts 43 Percent of Third Downs in 2011
In the second year under head coach Willie Taggart, the WKU
offense improved in virtually every category, including converting its third
downs.
The Hilltopper offense converted 43 percent of the time on third downs in 2011, up four percent from 2010. The third down conversions helped WKU to continue offensive drives, thus improving its average time of possession in 2011 to 35:08, besting its 2010 average of 33:03.
The Hilltoppers averaged more than 10 minutes per game in time of possession than their opponents, while converting 27 more third downs that their opposition. The Hilltopper defense held opponents to a 36 percent third down conversion rate, improving from a 40 percent mark in 2010.
