2012 (Sophomore): Played in 50 of the Hilltoppers 58 games in 2012, including 33 starts after making one start for WKU in his freshman campaign…Began to see extended action following an injury to centerfielder Jared Andreoli early in the season…Hit .235 on the year, to go along with a .350 on-base percentage, with six RBIs and one home run…Got off to a fast start, hitting .350 in his first seven starts on the year, including a pair of multi-hit games…In his first start of the year against Southern Illinois, went 2-for-4, drove in a run and stole a base…For the year, put together five multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit games against UALR and Eastern Kentucky…In the three-hit game against Eastern Kentucky on May 15, drove in a pair of runs and stole a base…Belted his first career home run on April 21 against Troy, leading WKU to a 9-4 win in game two of that series…Ended the season with a pair of hits in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, finishing 2-for-5.
2011 (Freshman): Played in 14 games for the Hilltoppers in his first season on the Hill...Made one start in center field against Illinois on March 13...Spent the majority of the season as a pinch runner option for WKU...Crossed home plate five times.
Pike High School: A three-year letterwinner and starter at Pike High School in Indianapolis, Ind.,...Coach by Michael Ruth at Pike...Earned all-conference and all-county honorable mention honors...Also played football for three seasons...Earned academic all-state honors.
Personal: David Simmons is the son of Richard Simmons and Mareia Shively...He is majoring in psychology.
