Bowling Green, Ky. - A mix of young and old will captain the Western Kentucky University football team this week. Seniors Jihad Morris and Jeremy Moore, sophomore Jared Clendenin and redshirt freshman Jack Doyle were selected as team captains for this Saturday's game at Navy.
Morris - who will serve as a captain for the second straight week - currently ranks third on the Hilltopper defense with 20 total tackles through three games. One of WKU's starting cornerbacks, Morris has also been credited with 1.5 tackles for loss and a pair of pass breakups.
Also among the team leaders in tackles, Clendenin enters this week's game with 17 total stops and a pass breakup. The defensive lineman tallied a career-best 10 tackles two weeks ago against South Florida.
Entering the game as the Hilltoppers' leading receiver, Doyle has caught 11 passes from 57 yards from the tight end position. Averaging 5.2 yards per catch on the season, he hauled in three catches for 27 yards last week against Central Arkansas. Doyle had led the team with four receptions in each of the first two games of the 2009 season.
Moore has averaged 44.3 yards per punt through the first three games of the season - the best punting average in the Sun Belt Conference and 14th-best in the nation. Of his 18 kicks so far this season, three have traveled 50-or-more yards and two has been downed inside the opposition's 20-yard line.
The Hilltoppers (0-3) and Midshipmen (1-2) will kick off at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. The game will be televised live on CBS College Sports.
