WKU Basketball Releases Boyd
Release: 08/16/2009
by Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University head coach Ken McDonald announced Sunday that incoming freshman Terrence Boyd has been released.  Boyd, a 6-5, 230-pound shooting guard from Norman, Okla, signed with WKU on April 15, the first day of the late signing period.

"Terrence Boyd is no longer with the Hilltopper program," said McDonald.  "Unfortunately things didn't work out with Terrence, but we wish him the best with his future."

Boyd played his freshman season at Norman High School before transferring to nationally-renowned Oak Hill Academy (Va.) as a sophomore.  He then moved to California and finished his prep career at San Diego High School, but was forced to sit out due to transfer rules.  As a member of the Athletes First AAU team, Boyd played alongside the likes of  other high-profile recruits like Xavier Henry and Daniel Orton.  He was ranked as high as 54th in the ESPNU's Top 100 while Rivals.com and Scout.com both list Boyd as a four-star recruit.

WKU finished the 2008-09 season ranked 41st in the RPI ratings as well as receiving votes in the final ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll after going 25-9 and winning the Sun Belt Conference East Division championship.  The Toppers won the SBC Tournament and earned the program's 21st NCAA Tournament appearance, knocking off fifth-seeded Illinois 76-72 in the first round before falling at the buzzer to 10th-ranked Gonzaga 83-81, just missing the program's second-straight trip to the NCAA Sweet 16.

WKU returns four starters for the 2009-10 season including five of their top six scorers.
