BOWLING
GREEN, Ky. — Nine WKU swimmers will be competing in the 2010 ConocoPhillips
National Championships August 3-7 in Irvine, Calif. The event features the top swimmers from across
the nation, and the competition will be nationally televised by NBC. Held at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics
Center, the competition also serves as trials for numerous events.
Headlining
the WKU swimmers in the event will be Claire Donahue, who will be competing in
the 100M and 200M butterfly. Donahue
was one of only 16 female swimmers in the nation to be named All-American by
CollegeSwimming.com after finishing 4th in the nation in the 100 Fly
at the 2010 NCAA Swimming Championships.
She became the first female swimmer and only the second person in WKU
history to qualify for the finals session at an NCAA Championship meet (Steve
Crocker, 4th in 50 freestyle in 1985). She also finished 9th nationally
in the 200 Fly.
